Simple gifts of Spring can go unnoticed or become mundane. The simple act of waking up and performing our daily routines is just what we do, right? Sometimes, things that often prove meaningful, go unnoticed. Daily habits can become routine and cause us to just get them done. When we go into that mode, small things go unnoticed…even in the garden.
I know I have to walk Precious before I truly start my day. Recently, I noticed writing my thoughts comes easiest early in the morning. After a brief game of tug of war and making sure Precious eats, my thoughts flow easily as I share thoughts of all things garden in my journal.
On a simple pre-Spring morning, I decided to bask in the mild and unexpected temperature. Precious and I were not briskly walking as usual. We strolled and listened to the birds chirping a song of morning joy. Woodpeckers, sounding like little jackhammers, searched for food in trees nearby. Simple sounds of nature welcome a new season. A tad earlier than expected, but welcomed nonetheless. The gift of hearing is appreciated.
I noticed a hint of purple in the midst of the grass along the tree line. It was the gift of crocus in an unexpected spot. A simple gift from a bird or a human wanting to add value to a morning walk. I received this vision of Spring with open arms.
In my garden, a few bloom’s held their heads high as if to say “look at me”…
I wandered on a mission of discovery. What was in bloom? Were there any buds about to burst? The gift of sight enables me to discover the early signs of Spring.
As I knelt to the ground, the act of feeling the soil was a delight. Looking up, I noticed the tree peonies sending up new growth in celebration of warmer days ahead.
Miniature fragrant daffodils planted in memory of Lexi brightly bloom as we still remember her exuberance for life, even though she is no longer with us. The gift of memory is a wonderful thing.
A cluster of coral blooms catches my eye, as I notice the Quince waking up. It must be showtime for these vibrant blooms to dance to the drumbeat of Spring.
By venturing into nature, I cannot imagine not noticing the gifts shared with us. As seasons change, go into the garden or you just might miss the gifts shared with each of us.
I notice each and every task that needs to happen as I prepare my Spring garden. However, I would rather pause and receive the unexpected simple gifts of nature.
Did you notice any of nature’s simple gifts today?
Enjoying the pre-Spring garden party at the Cottage…
