DESCRIPTION:The Shade Tree Short Course offers a variety of speakers with a broad range of topics. Teri will be sharing a talk\, Growing Community Through Gardening. This is a topic very close to Teri’s heart. From her many roles as a Founding Farmer of the Eitt CSA\, Stafford County\, Virginia to the current co-chair of Fiesta Place Community Garden in Maryland\, growing a community with hands in the earth has been a huge part of her journey. \nTeri will share a few experiences from her work with the National Wildlife Federation with gardens in Baltimore to the current work in her community in District Heights\, Maryland to connect all who show interest in growing and building community.

DESCRIPTION:Join a gathering of African American voices in horticulture for a Symposium highlighting our gardening Legacy. \nTeri will contribute to discussing Beyond Borders: The Ethono-Botanical and Horticultural Influence of Africans\, African Americans\, and Immigrants on the American Landscape.  The weekend starts with a screening of Family Tree on Friday night. Saturday will feature three sessions – The Wisdom of Trees: Urban Forestry and Black Land Ownership in the Subaltern South\, Beyond Borders: The Ethno-Botanical and Horticultural Influence of African Americans\, African Americans and Immigrants on the American Landscape\, and Centering African American Narrative Stories in Contemporary Environmental Literature and Media. \nThis is going to be a weekend of conversation and information to enlighten and inspire.
